Jeffrey is Thinking, Fast and Slow

The book I chose to read Was Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. I chose this book initially because of its interesting title and asked my dad if he ever had read it and recommmended it with high esteem. The book was interesting as it dives deep into the processes of the brain and it’s parts, while focusing on the two sort of trains of thought the are cunducted during decisions. The book also gives examples of when this two types of thinking occur. In this two decision making processes the author also says what occurs during both in terms of reliance on biases including availability and representative bias which are two things that definitely affect me personally. Essentially, the two types of thinking are fast and slow thinking occur during different scenarios and for different problems. More than anything else this semester, this book took a deeper approach as it delved into the mind during decision making. I think making a 3D chart to document the information relayed in the book regarding the two types of thoughts and what goes into each would be extremely helpful and useful. I didn’t know that the cognitive biases were actually given categories and names and that after reading this book they have lessened for me as I can identify when I’m about to confirm such biases.

  1. Hey Jeffrey,
First off, great post title. This book sounds pretty interesting too. It sound like if they are going into the function of different parts of the brain then this book is probably based in fact. I read Mindset: The New Psychology of Success which had some good points, but overall I felt that the author was really speculating about the way human minds work, without any science backing it up. The concept of fast and slow thinking is intriguing. I would guess I am more of a slow thinker because I like to have time to contemplate things before making decisions.
