Jeffrey's Reading Reflection #3

The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users, Guy Kawasaki

The general theme of The Art by Guy Kawasaki was an introduction to the world of social media to business who wish to interact in the space, sometimes it would tell you what customers look for in posts, what to post, and when to post. It is an overall good start to anyone not well-versed in the area.
The book easily has a lot of potential to aid in the students’ work in ENT as the whole idea around the class is building a product to release into the market and make sales. Without proper marketing, no one would ever see these ideas and have the chance to buy them. This book is that next step from production to putting the product in the public eye with timed social media posts with certain colors and themes to appeal to the public eye.
A great exercise would be to read his book, and think how you could market your product using his advice and tips, and then make a rough draft of a Facebook ad or other social media ad that follows or is at least aided but the Guy’s advice.
What was surprising about the book was how in-depth you must go in creating each and every ad. This book is by no means your one stop shop, to becoming a marketing expert but instead could be a starting off point for many.

  1. Hey Jeffrey,
I chose this book for my second reading reflection and I think it was a really good choice. Social media is such a huge aspect of our world today and can make a business become huge because of the audience that it reaches. Like you said, you need to be able to market your product in order to sell it and social media platforms are a great way to do that efficiently and it doesn't cost that much money to use if any at all.

  2. Hey Jeffrey,
This sounds like an interesting perspective on how to get your product out there. I've heard about how time time you post something can largely determine if it becomes a popular post or not but hadn't considered applying that to advertising. I also read one of the Entrepreneurship / Business / Philosophy books for my 3rd reflection, because I feel they have better information than the biographies.

  3. Marketing is such an important part of making a successful business. This book sounds like an interesting read, and I'll have to put it on my list to read. Knowing when and how to reach your audience and make an impact even for just a moment can be the difference in making money and losing money. I liked your idea for an exercise and think it could be fun. Great post.
